Garmin nüvi 200W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS NavigatorNuvi 200w craftsmanship is cheap compare to other higher Nuvi models. Touch screen sensitivity is frustrating, have to press hard enough to work. Worst thing is the dealer sent me a used model, a small paint scratch is noticeable on the seams and stain underneath the LCD display appeared after few weeks.
Bought unit a week ago but have already returned it because the speaker was defective. Even in this one week I have gone the opposite direction three or four times. In contrast to the old c320 you have to take out the cable each time. Pros: Satellite tracking is much much faster (the old unit would sometimes take a couple of minutes, this unit seems to have the location by the time the system has started up); processor is also much faster (finds names in a fraction of the time and maps are drawn faster). The c320's graphics were super straightforward, the graphics in the 200w seem a bit more like in a videogame.Overall: Apart from the speaker I think this unit is quite useful but the database is remarkably outdated. Cons: Apart from the broken speaker, the unit doesn't seem to have an updated data base - even roads or stores that have been around for a few years are not to be found. Can compare unit to garmin c320 which I have had for a few years. The power cable attachment is a bit problematic, too.
Also, while the c320 had no difficulties finding our house, the 200w locates our house some 100 meters away from where it is (and our location has been around for about 50 years; it's not a new development). Also, the unit gets the direction of travel wrong quite often, particularly when starting from a parking lot. I also don't like the new graphics so much. Given the price point (I got it for $139) you can't really complain too much, though.
Unchangable "abcde" keyboard, instead of "qwerty". Garmin's written response was that I bought a low-end unit; true enough, but if they sell it, I expect them to support it.Other annoyances include a EULA that you have to click or wait for every single time you turn on the unit.
The mapping and directions work as well as any, and I have no complaints there. I bought the Nuvi 200W as a basic automobile GPS, and it is.
I was able to install a subset map, but not one that covers both the Northeast and Northwest, the two areas I need. But Garmin and their support are terrible.
The unit came with a "free upgrade" to a newer map, but the new map CAN'T BE INSTALLED, because the unit has too little memory (um, so why don't they have a map that can be installed). Very slow satellite syncing.
Astonishingly slow USB updates (as in an HOUR to install a map).All-in-all, I'm sorry that I bought a Garmin.
i use it all the time. directions are not always the best but it never gets me lost. Must have.
I like this model very much, gave me peace of mind when travelling alone recemtly. Still found a need to have googlemap as a backup.
